Resilience in Progress is a call-to-action poster to encourage consumers to buy secondhand items (thrifting) as an alternative to buying retail (fast fashion) as a step toward a collective sustainable future.
My photograph featured in the poster includes pants that I thrifted, and sneakers that I mended and refurbished by lightly sanding the soles, painting the base and illustrating a design on the sneakers. This was inspired by craft practices of mending items rather than replacing these with a new version of it. I focus on a concept of ‘work in progress’ to create a new notion of ‘resilience in progress’ to support sustainability through consumer choices.
I aimed to express the uniqueness of the human experience through typography. The word 'resilience' is on the left hand side and the word 'progress' runs diagonal in the composition starting at the running shoes while the word 'in' is the most visible; representing different moments of resilience that are 'in' progress from clear to unclear. The word ‘in’ is the most visible to invite the audience to reflect on: Am I “in” for a collective sustainable future?
